If you don't want them, don't have them

Posted by Mustang Sally

Came across another heartbreaking CNN story... (read it here)...

The especially cruel part -- not that killing your own child isn't cruel enough -- is that she suffocated him, changed her mind, performed CPR on him and brought him back to life, then decided to follow through with it and suffocated him again. Her excuse was that she didn't want him to grow up unloved like she did. Damn, woman! There were plenty of options before you got pregnant and plenty of options after. Did you have to have a child at all? She sounds like she has mental problems (depression, etc.), but it's so heartbreaking for that poor little boy. What must have been going through his mind when his mommy killed him not once, but twice?

That's enough to turn my stomach. So many people try so hard to have a child of their own and can't. They turn to adoption. That little boy could have been adopted by a couple who wanted a child more than anything on earth.

My step-dad's sister and her husband just spent $60,000 to adopt 2 little girls. They desperately wanted to have children and couldn't. Then you have people like this who have kids and perform the unthinkable.

Ridiculous. I hope NM is in support of the death penalty.

Wait a minute, let's not be so quick to judge this woman and pass the death penalty! Instead of condemning this woman, why can't we be more compassionate and try to understand her actions. The article I read noted

"Schultz said there had been no reports of child abuse filed against Toribio. But he said family members indicated that she did not express the typical love of a mother for her child.

"She did not show the normal relationship that you would see with a mother, son," he said.

Why didn't the family members DO SOMETHING - didn't they CARE enough? It's no wonder that this woman thought no one CARED for her and obviously, without the assistance she desperately needed, she never learned to care for her son. What a shame!

I haven't read anything about a man in the picture, which indicates that the woman's husband / fiance / boyfriend / one-night-stand really didn't want to have a child. this begs a question: Who or what gives these women the right to go ahead and have a baby when the other party doesn't want to? Who or what gives these women the right to commit any random man to slavery or involuntary servitude for 18+ years simply so they can have a baby?

If it were possible for a man to go down to the courthouse, renounce his parental rights and not have to pay child support or alimony, there would be a lot fewer women who "just wanted to have a baby", and more who could figure out some adequate birth control when they want to have a little fun.

If a man doesn't want to have children then keep it in your pants or get a vasectomy. No courthouse needed.

There is just no way a woman or a man could want to do this to a child. There has to be something really wrong with a person to have these thoughts, but then to act on them? This goes to show that has a nation our morals are all but gone. There seems to be no line between right and wrong. Seems like everything I see, hear and watch is all about satisfying thyself and to heck with everyone else. That has got to change and it starts at home in our own families. Speaking of which, I better go make sure everyone is doing what they are suppose to be doing..................

She revived him, then killed him again. No matter what her circumstances of the past that brought her to this, the point is, she had second thoughts, which points to a sane enough mind to know what she was doing was wrong, and acted on them. When, oh when, are people going to stop using their past to explain away their criminal acts of the present? She knew it was wrong. She tried to save him, which would indicate that she in fact did care or she wouldn't have spent time reviving him. That contradicts her "story" of why she did it. Sorry, but I have no compassion for her.

As for the other comments regarding the father... all I have to say is, it takes TWO to make a baby. The only difference between men and women with regard to baby making and the obvious biological differences is the fact that the man has the ability to disappear on purpose and leave the woman to fend for herself. Most women aren't trying to "trap" men into paying child support. But damned straight men should own up to being a parent whether it was planned or an accident. It's the KID that suffers if you don't.

If you truly feel that way, by the way, why blame the women for an act BOTH of you do? Why does the idea of using a condom not occur to you? You have just as much power to prevent pregnancy as she has. Just as I told my son, never believe a woman you don't have a serious relationship with that she's on the pill (or shot or whatever). It's that simple. Take some responsibility.

I read about this story the other day (prior to her arrest). It is terribly sad & heartbreaking twice over. She definitely needs to be the one behind bars/punished but I also hold some blame to other family members who clearly saw she didn't hold the love a normal mother does for a child. So....we're they just waiting for her to off him? I mean we all have some responsibilities toward others' children to a degree (especially where family members are concerned). That is why there are agencies like DSS & DePaul Services; simply put, in certain occassions - someone, ANYONE needs to step in.

Unfortunately for little Ty, no one did and now it's too late.

It is time people are held accountable for there actions. Lets bring back an EYE for and EYE. Take her and suffacate her and bring her back for a few days then bury her in the sand alive and leave her. The is no excuse for this, anyone who tries to justify her actions are just as bad as her.

What has our society been reduced to when a story of this magnitude gets this: "Who or what gives these women the right to go ahead and have a baby when the other party doesn't want to? Who or what gives these women the right to commit any random man to slavery or involuntary servitude for 18+ years simply so they can have a baby?"

Wow. I'm blown away by this response. Sounds like something my own father might have said. And believe me, there are plenty of men who are hardly committed to ANYTHING much less a child they may have helped create. No courthouse ruling can fix that either.

Thank God there are plenty of men in the world who don't feel like you do. Sure hope YOUR old man didn't. If all the people in the world who should never have children DIDN'T, there'd be a whole lot of us that wouldn't be here.
